7th March 2012 is Holi this year.  The festival of colors, which is looked forward to like any other festival, begins much in advance, with the Holi Ropan tradition.

As per the traditional custom in the Hindu religion, the preparations for the festival of Holi starts a month before, when the central tree trunk of Holi is installed in the ground on the full moon day.

The significance of this tradition has diminished with time in the common masses but is still preserved in two places of the city, The City Palace and Badi Holi. [Read more...]

Pichola 2011-12, the Annual Function of the Bhopal Nobles PG College commenced today, 18th January 2012 at the B.N. College campus.

The event was inaugurated by the Principal of B.N. PG College, Vikram Singh Shaktawat at 12 pm.

Members of the Udaipur Marble Association and Udaipur Marble Processors Association left aside their business and trade for a day and gathered together with their families at the Field Club Ground to celebrate Makar Sakranti with full on masti and dhamaal.

Around 700 members of both the associations, along with their family members were seen having a fun time with sports competitions like, gilli-danda, sitoliya, kite flying, housie, tug-of-war, chair race, 100 meter race, football, volleyball etc. [Read more...]

The sweetness of a laddoo and gajjak prepared with til (sesame) for the essence of Makar Sakranti.

Coupled with specially prepared kheech and the echoes of sitoliya, a traditional game played by keeping 7 stones one above the other and cracking the heap with ball and then arranging them again before the opponents hit anyone from the team with the ball, the occasion is enjoyed by all and sundry, especially the kids. Day 6: The Shilpgram Extravaganza

‘Kuchmani Khayal’ by Bansi Lal Khiladi scored the first run in today’s session of the 2011 Shilpgram Fest, followed by the Gair dance.

The audience was once again treated to the Dandpatta Shabdvedh by Marathi artists in which a blind folded man was given directions to the beat of the drum and the Manganiar by Gazi Khan. [Read more...]

Shilpgram Festival 2011 Inaugurated

The 2011 Shilpgram Festival was inaugurated today by the Governor of Rajasthan, Shivraj Patil. This is the Silver Jubilee Year of the WZCC, the organiser of the Shilpgram Festival.

Subsequent to being given a traditional and warm welcome by the Festival authorities and the artists from the participating states, the Governor was led to the stage where he lit the traditional lamp, accompanied by the Director of WZCC, Shailendra Dashora. [Read more...]
