Cricket lovers of Udaipur receive a major setback as Ranji Trophy match scheduled in Udaipur has been rescheduled to Jaipur. It is believed that unavailability of play ground was one among the reasons behind the change.
Udaipur from past 3 years is hosting one Ranji Trophy match each season; it was after 40 years that Udaipur was given chance to host a match in 2009. But, the year 2012 turned unlucky as the city is lakes is disqualified to be the host of Ranji.
According to the sources, the major reason behind change of venue was availability of proper play ground, though Udaipur District Cricket Council (UDCA) was in action around a month back and booked a M.B ‘A’ ground to prepare a pitch of respective standards.
Earlier, UDCA had to face strong protest from Student Union over the venue and decision was taken to switch the venue to Field Club, however, somehow the change did not work because of some technical reasons.
“Yes, the Ranji Match supposed to be hosted by Udaipur and will now be held in Jaipur on the due date”, said Lakshya Raj Singh Mewar, President, UDCA.
He also said, “The news of Sachin and Zaheer to be playing in Udaipur under Ranji Tournament was a complete rumor, as the team is lined up with international match series in the remaining part of the year”.
