Multi Utility Medical Van for Alakh Nayan

mobile-eye-clinicState Bank of India (SBI) donated a medical van to Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute today on 15th December as the part of corporate social responsibility of the bank.

The van worth Rs. 12 lakhs is a 17 seater multi-utility air conditioner medical van with facilities like portable slit lamps, auto refractometer machine, cataract testing machine, tonometer, ophthalmoscope and retina scope,trail rest and trail frame.

B. Shreeram, the G.M of the bank said, “This van will be used by Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute to conduct eye checkup in rural areas and to bring people from remote places to Udaipur for treatment.” [Read more...]

Herbal Treatment for Various Diseases

A two days 18th Herbal Medicine Camp was organized by Yoga Seva Samiti on 6th and 7th December at their premises in which 560 patients were treated by Dr. B. R. Taneja.

Founder of Yoga Seva Samiti, Dr. Sunderlal Dak said, that during these two days, old, young and children were treated for problems related to backbone, slip disk, cervical spodylitis, joint pain, migraine, jaundice, paralysis, kidney stones, headache, etc. through simple, effective and harmless Ayurvedic herbal medicines.

Blood Donation Camp By Jain Groups

A Blood Donation and Medical Camp was organised by Mahaveer International & Vardhaman Jain Shavak Samiti at Mahaveer Bhawan, Sector-3 in Udaipur on Sunday Oct 16.

This camp was organized to motivate the youth and educate them to love and help the society in noble cause from time to time. The blood will be donated to MB Hospital Blood Bank which will be used in the hour of need to save someone’s life.

Udaipur to Host National Meet on World Sight Day 2011

India has a quarter of the 284 million people of the world who are visually impaired.

This shocking statement was made by Dr. Sujaya Krishnan, Director National Blindness Control Programme, India while addressing a press conference held in Udaipur on the eve of World Sight Day 2011 which is observed on October 13, 2011.

Dr. Krishnan said, “That’s only by proper measures and strong health strategy which can prevent 80% of the blindness occurring due to eye cataract.”

Alakh Nayan Mandir Eye Institute of Udaipur in joint coordination with International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) is organizing a two days National Conference in Udaipur as part of Vision 2020: The Right to Sight.

The conference is attended by participants coming from all over the country. Many organizations and representatives from Udaipur will also attend the conference which aims to focus attention on the global issue of avoidable blindness and visual impairment.

“Vision 2020 member organizations are working together to eliminate avoidable blindness by year 2020, in order to give everyone in the world the Right to Sight,” said Dr. Laxmi Jhala, the executive trustee of Alakh Nayan Mandir in the press conference held at Darbar Hall, today.

Further elaborating the aim, Dr. Laxmi Jhala said, “The event primarily aims at sensitizing the media and public at large towards the issue of blindness. The symposium will address issues related to preparing long term action plan for combating blindness in India and especially this region.”

“Alakh Nayan Mandir is one of active partners of Vision 2020 and has contributed significantly in the field of blindness prevention and control in Udaipur region, hence it has been given the responsibility to host this year’s World Sight Day event,” she added.

The Great Push – Investing in Mental Health

The Geetanjali Medical College and Hospital, Udaipur organised an awareness programme on October 10th 2011 – World Mental Health Day, at their College Campus.

The Chief Guest of the programme was the CEO – GMCH, Dr. N.C. Sharma and the Guest of Honour was Dr. K.A. Saifee, Principal and Controller – GMCH. There were many Senior Doctors and students of GMCH present in the programme.

The main speaker Dr. D.M. Mathur, Professor & Head Of Department – Department of Psychiatry, GMCH created awareness among the delegates by informing them that only 1% – 5% of the total budget is used for the awareness of Mental Health programme and diseases globally and this figure in India is even less than 1% due to which 75% – 80% of India’s population is unaware of cures of Mental Health Diseases.

dr.dmmathurDr. Mathur further provided an astonishing statistic that on every 12 lac of population we have only one psychiatrist and on every 2 crores of population we have one clinical psychologist which shows the lack of awareness towards this important and critical issue in general public.

Putting the spotlight on Rajasthan, Dr. Mathur said that “over 1.5 cr. People, in some or the other way are suffering from different forms of Mental Health diseases and among them 13 lac come under Serious disorders.”

He emphasised on the importance of creating awareness and delivering quick and easily available Medical cure for such patients, so as to prevent related bad effects on the community in general. He also suggested that Mental Health Awareness programmes should be conducted from time to time to educate the people on the presence of such diseases and the available cure for them.

On this occasion, Dr. Jeetendra Jeengar also gave a presentation of his views on Mental Health.

Dr. Harish Mathur, Professor & HOD, Community Medicine, Geetanjali Medical College expressed concern on the alarming increase in related incidences, viz. Suicide, Homicide, Sexual Assault, Divorce, Alcohol & Drug Addiction, Vehicle accident, etc. which are indicators reflecting a substantial drop in community mental health status.

He was of the opinion that correctly imparted education, guidance and counselling at family and early school & teenage schooling level are the predominant weapons to overcome the rapid increase of such incidences.

This seminar was attended by many eminent personalities of Udaipur along with their families and a counselling session was also conducted subsequent to the programme.
