Dedication of Stone Lamp at Sree Ayyappa Temple

ayyappa-templeA traditional stone lamp of six feet height with five layers has been consecrated at Sree Ayyappa Temple, Meera Marg, Udaipur which will be formally dedicated to Lord Ayyappa on the auspicious day of Painkuni Uthram, the birth day of the Lord on April 5, 2012 at 7 p.m.

The stone lamp was brought from Kanyakumari district at the initiative of a devotee, Shri P.K. Ramachandran to fulfill the aspiration of hundreds of devotees.

It may be mentioned here that stone lamps of varying heights are part of all South Indian temples and it was a long felt need of Sree Ayyappa Temple, Udaipur to install the same to keep the tradition alive. Best Ganguar Award in Mewar Festival

In the three days Mewar Festival starting from 25th March which is a joint initiative by Tourism Department and district administration, the best Gangaur will receive a cash prize after the procession in which many communities participate. The prize will be given by Department of Tourism.

Asst. Director, Dileep Singh Rathore has informed that the best Gangaur will be decided at Jagdish Chowk by a team of judges. The first prize is Rs.11000, the second prize is Rs.7000 and the third prize is Rs. 5000. All the prizes are sponsored by R.K. Udaipur Women flock to worship Sheetala Mata

Hundreds of women worshippers dressed in the traditional piliya (yellow/orange) attire were seen lined up at the temples of Shitala/Sheetala Mata today, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Sheetla Saptami.

As per conventional approach, the day is generally observed on the seventh day of the Hindu month of Chaitra, but at many places it is celebrated on the eighth day of the month.

It is also believed strongly that due to an unfortunate incident that occurred in the Royal Family of Udaipur, the Sheetala Saptami is always conducted on the eight day, i.e. Ashtami. One can anyways observe the rituals both on the day of Saptmi as well as on Ashtami. [Read more...]




Udaipur Prepares For Mewar Festival

Various cultural programmes will be the centre of attraction during traditional Mewar Festival to be organized from 25th to 27th March. This information was given by the District Collector, Hemant Gera in a meeting held before the commencement of the preparation for the same.

The Collector discussed and analyzed the roles of various departments to make the event safe, interesting and huge.

Lok Kala Mandal to mark 60th Foundation Day

Another Great Day At Shilpgram [Photos]

It was another great day at the ultimate fun filled 10 day Shilpgram Utsav. People enjoyed the traditional dance and music at the entrance gate.  The theme for evening events was named as “Himalaya Ki Vaadiyo Se”.

The evening performances by artists from Orissa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Gujarat were spell bounding. The Gotipua dance was an amazing performance by kids. It received all the more applauds when the secret was revealed that the performing kids were all boys dressed as girls.
