Driver of a 12-seater auto rickshaw was injured when his auto crashed into a road divider. The mishap took place when a Fiat Punto car going in parallel with the auto allegedly moved closer to it. The accident occurred at Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal today.
Fortunately, there were very few passengers in the auto. The vehicle got damaged from front side and the driver received minor head injury.
In a two different mishaps that took place at Panchwati area today morning, a kinetic scooter caught into flames due to alleged short circuit in wiring. In another incident a car leaped over road divider after the driver lost control over it.

A physically handicapped man, employed as a Clerk at the Excise Department was rushed to hospital after being hit by a loading Tempo today evening at Panchwati area.
Kenilal Gayri, UDC Excise Department, Udaipur and resident of Rajsamand received serious injuries on the right leg. The mishap took place when Gayri who is completely unable to walk due to disability was waiting for a bus outside his office.
According to sources, a white colored loading Tempo bearing No. RJ-30-A-3540 came from behind and hit Gayri. The driver fled away from the spot. [Read more...]
In a disastrous road-accident that took place at Panchwati today, three students of Alok School received multiple injuries and got admitted in GBH American Hospital.
Victims, Tribhuvan Ranavat (18), resident of Badgaon, Gaurav Rathor (19), resident of Surajpol and Saumya Sharma (17) resident of Bedla are students of class 12th at Alok School Fatehpura. All three of them were passing through Panchwati, near Miraj office on their gearless bike, when another motorcyclist coming from opposite direction hit the students.
According to sources, the crash was so intense that Tribhuvan received severe head and facial injuries, while his acquaintances Gaurav, who was supposedly riding the bike and Saumya got multiple bone fractures. [Read more...]
The electric pole which was partially collapsed last night caused major black-out in several areas for 2 hours last night; areas including Panchwati, Sardarpura and Madhuban suffered electricity cut. The linemen from electricity department are still working on fixing the problem, till afternoon today.
To avoid any further mishap, road traffic was diverted on a single lane resulting in slow moving traffic, in front of Meera Girl’s College.
According to sources, last night at around 10:15, an unidentified vehicle smashed the electric pole which ignited fire, due to short circuit, fortunately no fatalities have been reported and the fire was also controlled in time. [Read more...]

Our hometown, the city of lakes, Udaipur, has nullahs that carry the excess water of the lakes of the city. Our house is situated near one such nullah, which carries the excess water of Pichola and Fatehsagar lakes. Nowadays this nullah has been converted into sewerage. It returns to its previous glory once in a year when it rains and the lakes overflow.
We have been watching aquatic birds and waders in this nullah in our spare time for decades. On 13 September 2003 we were watching a Painted Snipe skulking at the edge of the water taking advantage of every bit of cover.
Two small chicks were following the snipe in the same manner. It approached a small bush just near the water’s edge when a pig from the opposite bank waded in the direction of the snipe. The snipe froze where it was. Both the chicks came towards its legs, one on the right side and the other on the left. [Read more...]
An enforcement officer of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Department is held red handed by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today on taking a bribe of Rs.5000 in return of issuing a No Objection Certificate for 20 laborers working in a city based township. The alleged actual amount demanded was Rs.20,000.
Prem Kumar Sharma, the enforcement officer was detained by ACB at Balaji Temple near Meera Girls College when he was taking the bribe money from the labor contractor Karit Bhai who approached the ACB a few days back when Sharma illicitly demanded money to do the job.
According to ACB officials, the applicant Karit Bhai informed the anti corruption officials about Sharma, who had initially asked for a bribe of Rs. 20,000 rupees to issue NOC for 20 laborers who worked at a township and had made their Provident Fund accounts.
After negotiation the amount was dropped to 10,000 of which, 5000 was already paid by Karit Bhai in April 2012 and the remaining 5000 was to be paid today. [Read more...]
