Street Theater Amazes Udaipurites!!!

More than 30 foreign artists arrived to perform in The Very Good Festival

It was an absolute surprise for the locals of Jagdish Chowk area to witness two foreigners acting comically in the middle of the road; some thought that they are artists and presenting their skills, while some others were confused over their drama.

Street Theatre Artists, Jean Phillipe and Loic are from France and presented their comic street play as a part of the “The Very Good Festival” that started today in joint association of Movindia and Banyan Roots.

Around 38 such artists from France and Morocco will perform in various parts of city, while main event will be held at Fatehsagar on 28th February. [Read more...]

Camp Held to assist differently-abled

District Administration and Social Justice & Empowerment department, together organized a camp today at Jagdish Chowk Government Girls school to locate, certify and help differently-abled people.

In the camp, various departments, including Municipal Council, Social Justice & Empowerment department, roadways, Women and Child Development department, employment department etc, set up individual counters to provide information and service.

Mandata Singh Ranawat, Deputy Director Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Udaipur informed that, awareness was created amongst the differently-abled people on several policies and schemes available for them, such as Astha Yojna, Sahayata Yojna, roadways bus-pass etc.

40 differently-abled people were provided with a disability certificate. Under Sanyukta Sahayata Scheme, application for tricycle, wheelchair and crutches were executed. Roadways department provided 30 buspasses and executed 2 applications for the scholarships, 2 for astha card and 6 for disability pension scheme.

Chairperson of Municipal Council Udaipur, Rajini Dangi took information from several departments and their schemes.

Residents object re-establishment of public urinal near Temple

People living near Jagdish Chowk expressed agitation and hurt to the Municipal Commissioner’s office today complaining about a public urinal being re-established at Jagdish Mandir’s wall.

The crowd was led by Mohan Devi Suthar, Municipal Councilor, ward 10.

According to the people, the urinal established from last 25 years was thrashed down by the residents as it was polluting the aura and dignity of the temple.

They alleged, former councilor Geeta Paliwal for intentionally provoking such non-religious act. [Read more...]

Jewelers back to work

After 21 days of strong and continuous demonstrations against the imposed duty on Gold, the nationwide strike of jewelers ended last night of 6th April. Jewelers in all parts of the country got back to work from today.

Inder Singh Mehta, Patron, Sarafa Association informed, “after 21 days of our protest against the Excise and Custom Duty, we opened our shops on the assurance given by the Finance Minister and Sonia Gandhi, President of the Indian National Congress that in the 2nd session of Lok Sabha that will be held from 24th April to 11th May, the issue of the Excise and Custom Duty will be discussed and a positive decision will be taken”.

He also said that if no decision is taken till 11th May, then the members of the association will resume the strike, and this time there would be violent demonstrations.

300 Yr old Bawadi to Get a New Look

bawadi-one1Udaipur has a number of Bawadis (man-made water reservoirs) which used to be one of the most important sources of water for hundreds of years. Though many of the bawadis came to end due to lack of maintenance and other such reasons, still some of them are supplying water to locals of Udaipur by mechanically linked to ground water.

One such, nearly 300 years old ‘Maa ji ki Bawadi’ at Jagdish Chowk area which was left abandoned from the last 40 years is now again taking shape after the initiative by local residents of Jagdish Chowk. The cleaning and renovation of this historical bawadi is taken care by Jagdish Mandir Seva Samiti with the help of Udaipur Municipal Council. [Read more...]

Jewelers on Hunger-Strike, will continue protest

sarafa-udaipur2After protesting continuously for 19 consecutive days and with no productive results, the members of the Udaipur Sarafa Association have augmented their protest by taking on a Hunger Strike from today at Ghanta Ghar. As reported earlier, the association is protesting against the custom hike on gold.

Drowned Youth identified

The man whose body was recovered from Lake Pichola 2 days ago, was identified as Mukesh Kandara (20), son of Roshanlal Kandara, resident of Dundia village, Mangalwad.

His body was identified by Himmat Singh Rathore, under whom Mukesh was working as a house keeper and staying at Fatehpura for the past one and a half months.

According to sources, someone informed Himmat Singh after seeing the news on television; later, after the identification, Himmat Singh informed Mukesh’s father Roshanlal about the incident and the demise of his son.

There were two tattoos on the arms of the deceased, “M.S”, which were the initials of his name and the other ‘Rohit’, which was his nickname, as Mukesh had a passion for joining the film industry and also tried his luck a few times in Mumbai.

As per sources, Mukesh went for a bath to Lake Pichola on 3rd April and accidently drowned in the lake.
