50 Lakh worth of Illegal Liquor apprehended

A truck containing 1,654 cartons of illegal liquor was apprehended near Kaya village by the Goverdhan Vilas Police on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway today.

Badri Lal, resident of Bhindar and Mahendra Singh, resident of Kherwada were arrested with the truck when they were going towards Gujarat.

On interrogation, the arrested individuals revealed to the Police that they were given Rs 13,000 on 10th April to transport the illegal liquor estimated to be around Rs. 50 lakh to Gujarat from Karnal in Haryana. The duo started with their illegal goods from Karnal on 19th April.

The truck has been kept at the Goverdhan Vilas Police station till investigations are completed.

Blind Woman alleges to be cheated by Land Mafia

A blind woman, Hina Kataria resident of Govardhan Villas has registered a complaint against an alleged Land Mafia.

Hina said that the accused convinced her to invest in a plot and assured her that he will take the whole responsibility of construction as well. The accused was able to secure more than Rs. 6 lacs from Hina, in 3-4 installments.

When Hina’s husband asked the person to show the plot which he has purchased for them, then the accused denied any such deal and also refused to return their money.

According to police sources, there is an earlier case registered against accused for forgery and illegal acquisition of land.

Big Bullies roam City roads, Traffic turns Chaotic

The four-lane construction work on the Balicha-Pratap Nagar bypass created a chaotic traffic situation today evening at 9.30PM.

The four-lane construction, which is under progress on the bypass for the past three days, resulted in the Pratap Nagar end being shut-down to traffic.  The heavy vehicles were then diverted to the obvious alternate route through the bustling city in the evening.

The big trucks, trolleys and other heavy traffic moved towards Sevashram from Pratap Nagar, on their way to Surajpol, passing BN College, CCMS, onwards to Udiapol on their way to the Balicha intersection which meets the Ahmedabad highway.

This created a chatoic traffic situation in the city, which later resulted in wastage of a significant amount of time.

Truck Crashes into Residential Colony, damages houses

truck-hits-houseTwo houses, a few shops and electric poles were damaged at Goverdhan Vilas when a truck accidently crashed into a residential area adjoining the highway. Fortunately, nobody is reported hurt in the mishap that occurred after midnight of 14th July.

The truck driver and his helper fled away immediately after the accident. According to some eye witnesses staying in nearby houses, the driver was allegedly drunk at the time of the accident.

The house of Purshottam Lal Jain, meanwhile was severely damaged while two electric poles also came down and another house and shop of Dinesh Jain has been destroyed from many places. [Read more...]

UIT hands over Sector 11-14 to Nagar Parishad

In an Urban Improvement Trust (UIT), Udaipur meeting today, the UIT handed over their development jurisdiction of Hiran Magri Sectors 11, 12, 13 and 14 to the Udaipur Municipal Council (UMC) today.

According to R.P. Sharma, Secretary, UIT, “If the UMC wishes to develop and build more in those areas and does not have proper resources for it, we will be more than happy to support and help them out in their projects.”

UIT has also handed over the Housing Board Plans of Hiran Magri Sector 11 to Sector 14 in this procedure. [Read more...]

Vijay Jatia the 17 year-old boy who died yesterday by drowning in Goverdhan Sagar Lake, hailed from a very poor family background and was the only earning hand of the family and due to his sudden death the family is left helpless.

Vijay is survived by his father, mother and elder brother.

Pleading for financial support from the administration; the Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) presented a Memorandum to the ADM City, Yasin Pathan and requested early compensation that is entitled to the deceased’s family.

The accident occurred today afternoon near Goverdhan Vilas Police station when 23-year-old Harish Meena lost control over his motorbike and crashed with road divider. He died on the spot. Harish was reportedly talking on cell phone while driving when the accident happened.

According to police sources, Harish, hailing from Kherwada, was working as a helper in one of the city malls. He used to live in a rented house near Panchwati. [Read more...]

Fast Moving Vehicle Kills Teenage Girl

This evening, a 19-year old girl was run over by a fast moving truck after she was hit from behind. The driver of the vehicle fled away while the truck was taken into police custody.

Lalita d/o Bhagwan Lal Gameti, a student and resident of Balicha, NH.8 was going to her maternal grandfather ‘s house towards Suo Ka Falla village on her scooty at 4.45 pm. A speeding truck hit her from the back and ran over her face. This resulted in fatal head injuries and she died on the spot.

According to the police “The truck was taken into custody and transferred to the police station and the body was shifted to the mortuary of the M.B Hospital for Postmortem.”

The police have started their investigation on the basis of the license plate of the truck and a FIR was lodged against the driver.
