On the occasion of Good Friday today, hundreds of local people celebrated the day by visiting various Churches in the city and praying with unflinching devotion and faith.

At Fatima Rani Church Udaipur, a huge number of Christians participated in the traditional Good Friday procession that retraces Jesus’ walk by caring the Cross. Along the way, people chanted prayers and Sang Hymns. Good Friday events started with a late noon prayer service at the Cathedral followed by the procession in the St. Paul’s School Udaipur. Rev. church1The Christian community of Udaipur celebrated Palm Sunday at Shepherd Memorial Church today. On the occasion, special prayers were organised and verses of Holy Bible were read in the church by Rev. Prem Prakash Peter from Mount Abu.

According to Rev. Rameson Viktor, Head Priest at Shepherd Memorial, it is believed that Lord Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem on this very day; and it marks the beginning of the holy week. [Read more...]

In an especially organized religious ceremony conducted at St. Paul’s School compound, Devprasad Ganava is deputed as the Bishop of Udaipur Catholic community; Ganava will take the esteemed position from former Bishop, Joseph Pathalil who served for 28 years.

The installation ceremony was conducted in the presence of Salvatore Pennacchio, representative of Pop Benedict XVI. Pennacchio greeted the audience with appreciation and thanked former bishop Joseph Pathalil for his service and also expressed gratitude to new bishop Ganava for showing the consent over Pop’s request. With the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2013 from 18th January, United Christian Front (UCF), Udaipur conducted an evening prayer at RPC Rajasthan Pentecostal Church Rani Road, Udaipur on 22nd January.

Pastor Dr. Paul of RPC church welcomed the gathering; the prayer began with a praise and worship. After reading the word of God, Fr. Norbert Herman SVD, The Director of Maitri Sadan, preached a powerful homily on the theme ‘walking as the friends of Jesus’.In his captivating Sermon, he said that the Christians around the world are called as friends with Jesus and friends with one another. Following the preparation of upcoming Christmas celebration in the city, the Christian community observed the annual joint Christmas celebration today at Shepherd Memorial Church. The blissful program consisted of carol singing, Christmas message delivered by the priest and joint prayers by the devotees.

Scores of people from various areas of Udaipur gathered at the oldest Church of the city, Shepherd Memorial, at Chetak today evening.

These lines of Mushtaq Chanchal described that, what is the motive behind the Peace March or the “Shanti Rally”

The rally showcased the colours of Unity as well as depicted the peaceful co-existence of different castes creeds, religions and sex. Maitri Sangh is known for organizing such rallies and programs to bring peace and harmony between different communities.

The rally started around 4:00PM from the organization’s office at Patel Circle. It was flagged off by Pradeep Kumawat, Director, Alok Sansthan along with Father Norbert Herman of Sarv Dharm Maitri Sangh.

Dr. Kumawat said that Maharana Pratap was the first person in Rajasthan to respect Sarva Dharma as his “Senapati” was Muslim and his soldiers were tribals. [Read more...]

A series of programs are organized before the festival of Christmas, staring from the first Sunday of December.

On the first Sunday, Holy Communion; second was Bible Sunday while yesterday on 16th Dec, the third Sunday, White Gift Sunday was celebrated at Shepherd Memorial Church.

On this occasion, kids of the community presented a Glimpse of Lord Jesus by dressing alike, while the pastor of the church distributed gifts wrapped in white covers among the needy ones. Seven days before Christmas, Carols are sung to express joy on the birth of Christ. [Read more...]

White Gift Sunday on 16th December

Christian community of Udaipur, in a month long celebration of Christmas, will hold White Gift Sunday on 16th Dec. at Shepherd Memorial with morning prayers, followed by a Carol Singing in evening.

In the series of events on Christmas, various programmes are scheduled for all the Sundays falling in the month; under the same covenant White Gift Sunday will be celebrated on 16th morning, wherein kids will be gifted individually.

According to Parminas Mathews, Spokesperson of community, on White Gift Sunday, children of community will be given gifts by Pastor Rameson Victor, while in the evening Carol Singing will start at 6 pm.

Mathews added that decoration of church is being given final touches, whereas preparation of Crisp is still going on at Shepherd Memorial and is expected to complete by 23rd Dec.
