One of the distinguished educationists of the country, Dr. Anil Sadgopal addressed scheduled meetings with various professionals and social representatives today on the issues of right to education, in various programs held at Udaipur.
His sessions started with a meet with media personnel in the morning, followed by a conference organized by the Vidya Bhawan Society, Seva Mandir and Mohan Singh Mehta Memorial Trust in the afternoon.
In the “Meet the Press”, conversation with media held at Lake City Press Club, Dr. Anil expressed his views on the challenges and rights to education in creating awareness of the present setup of the educational system prevailing in the country.
Dr. Sadgopal said, “By increasing the tariff of education, central and state government is following the agenda of WTO-GATS but it is also disobeying the constitution of India. Collaborating with corporate sector to run the educational centers government is just working for profits.”
“There is no equal education for all; private sectors which provide quality education are very expensive and government schools which are affordable do not provide quality education.
Only 16% children of SC/ST and backward classes are able to reach the 12th standard and only 8% of them make it for further studies because of this inequality of rates. Govt. has also introduced foreign education in the country but everyone is not able to afford it”, he further added.
To build up a new education policy on the basis of equality, Dr. Anil demands dis-involvement of private, public and partnership sectors, free education for children ‘from K.G to P.G’, Common School System (schools which run on common funds), withdrawal of the educational system proposed in 2009 and the FDI policy and equal opportunity to all after 12th class.
According to Dr. Sadgopal, “Government is giving growth to corruption by increasing the fee structure of education. 2.5 crore children will take admission in the first standard in the coming academic year, but government cannot ensure how many of them will clear 12th standard.”
