On the occasion of 2nd October Gandhi Jayanti, Shastri Jayanti, and 56th Wild Life Week (1-7 Oct 2010) Forest Department Udaipur, Palak Seva Sansthan and Rotary Club Mewar organized a grand cycle rally in Udaipur. The slogan of the rally was to promote cycling and protect the environment of Udaipur.
Program began with garlanding of Gandhi Ji’s statue at Gulab Bagh and Shastri Ji’s statue at Shastri Circle by the Mayor of Udaipur Mrs. Rajni Dangi who herself motivated Udaipurites by participating in the rally. The rally encompassing more then 600 students and 150 citizens of the city started from Gandhi statue, Gulab-Bagh and ended at Gandhi Ground, Chetak circle via Shastri Circle. Later Mr. RaghuVeer Singh Meena (MP), the Chief Guest joined the rally at Gandhi Ground and participated in the race.
Cycle race competition was organized at Gandhi Ground Track in different categories. Winner in Ladies category was Krati Bansal, Astt. Editor UdaipurTimes.com who also supports Palak Seva Sansthan. In school category (girls) Bhavna, school category (boys) Rajat Chobe, college category(boys) Mahaveer Singh Chouhan were the respective winners. They all were awarded in the closing ceremony by Mr.RaghuVeer Singh Meena.
Mr. Vishal Bhopawat form Palak Seva sansthan and Mr.N.C.Jain, CWC Forest Department Udaipur jointly announced that “The campaign to promote cycling and making Udaipur a clean city has just begun. We have formed a Nature Cycle Group which will go for cycling every month on a regular basis. First such event will be organized on 3rd Oct 2010 at 6:45 p.m. at Dudh Talai.”
The movement was also joined by Pahal Group, Shikhshantar, and Scout & guide Udaipur.
