Taking the Road Safety Week as an opportunity to spread the awareness of the road safety measures and repercussions of carelessness while driving, there is an exhibition of posters put up at Suchna Kendra, Udaipur.

There were moments of extreme joy and excitement when 90 students of the 1987 batch from St. Paul’s Senior Secondary School, Udaipur met after many years in alumni meet held today at St. Paul’s school campus.

2012, The Silver Jubilee Year of 87’ batch mates was celebrated by hosting various exciting events, which started from early in the morning today amidst splendid music played by the Army Band, closely followed by a group photo session with the teachers.

The Alumni then addressed the current batch of students and the day culminated after a round of sport and game activities between alumni and current students of the school. [Read more...]




Pre-Deepawali Photos of Udaipur

The princely town of Mewar has once again dressed in its royal attire; apparently it is festive time. Every nook and corner, shops and houses are decked with colorful lightning, flowers and rangoli. The city of lake is all set to celebrate Deepawali- the festival of lights.

Ignoring the rising prices for everything, people are enjoying shopping and shops are attracting customers with the most possible offers they can provide.

Bursting sound of crackers has started piercing ears and dozens of ‘Happy Diwali’ messages has pulled out the cellphone inbox.

Saving themselves from contaminated sweets and horrifying traffic situation, Udaipurites will mark the day of Deepawali tomorrow on Oct 26.

Laxmi Puja is the main ritual to be performed to please the Goddess of Wealth, Laxmi. We the UT team wishes our every reader, subscribers, sponsors and advertisers a Very Happy Diwali!

[Pics] Diwali Mela 2011: Local Talents Rocked

With glittering lights and cheerful crowd Diwali Mela 2011 begins today at Municipal Corporation’s ground at Town Hall. This formally marks the beginning of the festive season; Diwali which is much awaited by all very eagerly and anxiously.

The fair was inaugurated by Bhanu Kumar Shastri, former Chairman, Khadi Gramudyog Board under the pious presence of Mahant Mahamandeleshwer Rasbihari Sharan of Asthal Ashram.

The other dignitaries who graced this occasion include Shantilal Chaplot, former Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Sajjan Katara, MLA (Rural), Dinesh Bhatt, President BJP etc. All the guests took a round of the stalls and also inquired about various items available there.

Cultural evening started with lightning of lamp by the Guests. In her welcome speech Rajni Dangi, Chairperson, Municipal Council, Udaipur said that this fair has been organized for healthy and clean entertainment of the natives.

The evening started with Sai Baba’s aarti which made the milieu religious followed by Vande Matram by Maharana Kumbha Kala Kendra turning the environment from religious to patriotic.

What followed after, were the scintillating performances by local artists which spell bound the spectators. In all 35 programmes were presented in today’s cultural night.

The ground in front of the stage was packed and the performers received grand applause from audiences. The coordinator of Cultural Committee, Dhanpal Swami informed that today’s function was a fusion of Bhawai, Rajasthani, Gujarati, Western and Bollywood Songs and dances.

He further added that 18 October is dedicated to students of Udaipur, where different institutions of Udaipur will get a chance to show their talent on the stage.

[Pics] Navratri Ends with Visarjan

The most magnificent celebration of Navratri at Sutharwara, an unusual locality of Udaipur which became popular in recent years for its special Navratari celebrations, concludes after submerging Goddess Ambe’s idol in Lake Pichola yesterday on October 7.

Like the whole 9 blessed nights and 10 days of the festival when Sutharwara became essence of festive flavor that moved thousands of devotees to visit the highly decorated place every day, the end of the celebration had also astounded the crowd.

While the Gher Dance performance by kids mesmerized the devotees, the electrifying tune of Maharashtra Band (Bombay Dhol) connected the soul to the enlightened mystic.

Overall it was a most pleasant and devotional experience which also illustrated the communal harmony as Sutharwara is situated close to Dholi Bawri, a Muslim pocket that makes special arrangements every year to welcome Hindu devotees passing through the area.

This year too, Muslims of Dholi Bawri welcomed the procession by Hindus of Sutharwara by offering sharbat and fruits showing a perfect example of religious tolerance, unity and harmony. [Read more...]




[Pics] Dussehra Celebrated by Burning the Evil

The auspicious festival of Vijayadashmi popularly known as Dussehra has been commemorated with enormous spirits of enthusiasm and happiness.

A day long religious programmes, processions and rituals have concluded in the evening with flaming the effigies of Ravana and Kumbhakaran by Vijay Kasturi who has become Ram in today’s procession, followed by grand fireworks presentation at Udaipur’s Gandhi Ground.

Kishore Lalwani who was playing the part of Lord Hanuman put to fire the Lanka, capital of Ravan’s Kingdom, popularly known as Sone ki Lanka and Amit Khaturia who dressed as Laxman burnt Meghnath’s effigy.

As the idols of Demons started burning, the crowd cheered up, chanting religious slogans ‘Siyaver Ramchandra ki Jai’ and expressing the joy of victory of good over evil.

The programme started at Gandhi Ground today evening at 6 pm when a large and colorful procession reached the ground after covering major pathways of the city. The procession started from Sanatan Dharma Mandir where a prayer was held.

The event was managed by Sanatan Dharm Seva Samiti, a branch of Baluchistan Panchayat, Udaipur. The programme details and coordination is provided by Gurumukh Kasturi.

The chief guests present in the programme were Rajni Dangi , Chairman, Municipal Council; Raghuveer Meena, MP; Gulabchand Kataria, MLA; Dr. Girija Vyas, MP Chittorgarh; Kiran Maheshwari, General Secretary, BJP; Sajjan Katara, MLA (Rural); Shalendra Dashora, Director,WZCC and Lalchand Taldar, Former president Baluchistan Panchayat.

[Pics] Navratri Consummates with Maha Aarti at Sutharwara

The festival of Navratri concludes with great devotion and bliss. On the last night of the 9 days festival, thousands of devotees gathered to observe the beautiful ritual of Maha Aarti conducted at Sutharwada, which is famous for its grand pandal and splendid navratri celebration that attracts thousands of people every day.

Hundreds of people participated in Maha Aarti of Goddess Amba whose idol was splendidly decorated not only with flowers and ornaments but also with currency notes worth Rs. 7 lakhs tied in form of garlands and other decoration known as Mata ka Shringar.

The devotees prayed for prosperity and peace holding lamps in hands during maha aarti. The aarti was followed by Phoolon ki Holi, a unique celebration where devotees’ shower flowers over a girl dressed as Goddess Amba and as she walked through the road many followed her transforming the event into a small procession.
