Merry Christmas Udaipur!

Christmas the holy festival of Christians was celebrated with absolute enthusiasm and extreme honor. Like in every other part of world, in Udaipur too it was a big festive day for strong 7000 (approx) Christian community. The day started with mass prayers and gatherings at churches in Udaipur.

On Christmas Eve, with swinging rhythms of bells and Carols, Santa Clause will going to present gifts to all children of the world. Celebrations and Joy is up! Christmas is already a global festival so every part of world is decorated with beautiful stars, colorful x-mass trees, bells, candles, angels, snow sheets, lights, sweet candies, cakes and lots of smile.

Especially it’s an opportunity for kids to say their wishes to Santa, children always look cute. Their innocent eyes, carefree smile and so many silly questions are enough to feel happy inside.

Ashura in Udaipur: Taziya and Matam By Muslim Devotees

The day of Ashura has commenced today in the Muslim world with great honor and faith. Especially for Shia/Shiite Muslims, Ashura is the most sacred day in their calendar. The word Ashura which literally means 10 is commemorated on 10th of Muharram as the day of Imam Hussain’s death in the Battle of Karbala in 680AD.

Condolence Procession in Honor of Imam Hussain

Today on 10th Muharram as per the Dawoodi Bohra Calendar, a day of Ashura was commemorated with a procession where hundreds of Dawoodi Bohra(youth) shias wearing black clothes and beating their chests in grief, marched from Moidpura Mosque started from 2:30 and ended by 5:00 in the evening at to Wazirpura Mosque in Boharwadi.

Chhadi Procession in Udaipur

To commemorate the martyrs of Karbala, Imam Hussain and his 72 followers, today on 7th of Muharram Muslims of Udaipur had organized a traditional procession of Chhadi Mubarak.

A spear like object normally 8-10ft long with swords hanging on its top and an Islamic flag known as Alam was been taken out in an extended procession started from morning 10.00am from Chetak Circle’s Mosque Badi Paltan which went through other Muslims areas like Alipura, Dholi Bawdi, Bharbhuja Gati, Teej ka Chowk, Ghanta Ghar, Silawat Wadi, Chandpol and ended in Chamanpura at 5:30pm. Shias in Udaipur & Significance of Muharram

Every Islamic month has its religious and historical values. Like, the month of Ramadan is termed as the most sacred month of Islamic calendar in which Muslims perform fast for 30 days. Likewise, month of Muharram/Moharram is also vital because of many bases, one because it is the first month of Islamic calendar, and another because of a historical incident attached with it. That incident has deeply affected the whole Muslim fraternity and their beliefs, fundamentals and philosophy till date.

Khanji Pheer Saheb: The Great Bohra Saint

Dawoodi Bohras of Udaipur will remember their spiritual scholar and saint Khanji Pheer on  315th Urs (day of death) on 2nd Muharram 1432 Hijri which will fall on 8th December 2010. Because of the start of the month of Muharram which has its own religious significance as it is also the first month of Islamic Calendar, every year Urs is organized on 1st of Muharram. This year it is on 7th December 2010.

Khanji Bhai Pheerji Bhai/ Khanji Pheer/khanjipeer was a spiritual and religious scholar and saint of Dawoodi Bohra Shia sect of Islam. He was born and brought up in Udaipur, though the date of his birth is not confirmed but it is believed to be in late 15th or early 16th century. [Read more...]

GURU Nanak Dev, the first guru of Sikhs, was born in 1469 in a village named Talwandi, which later came to be known as Nankana Sahib, now in Pakistan. His father’s name was Kalyaan Daas Ji (Mehta Kalu) and his mother’s name was Tripta. His sister, Nanki, was five years his senior. Eid Ul Adha – The Festival of Sacrifice

Two months after the major festival of Islam, Eid-ul-Fitr, another special occasion is on the way. This is known as Eid-ul-Adha. In India and neighboring countries it is also called Bakri-Eid because of the sacrifice of animals performed on this day.

Nakoda Ji Bhajan Sandhya

Nakodaji is one of the holiest places as per Jainism. To worship and praise Lord Nakoda, a ‘Bhajan Sandhya’ was organized at the Town Hall in Udaipur by an organization named Nakoda Purnima Mandal on 14th November 2010.

In this evening dedicated to Lord Nakoda, people gathered in large numbers. The evening began with the chanting of Navkar Mantra and an Aarti was performed of the Nakoda Idol by 108 diyas. [Read more...]
