‘Gavri’ the Opera of Mewar

Gavri is a semi musical and dramatically performed religious ritual exclusively demonstrated by Bheel Tribe of Mewar Rajasthan.

There is no particular stage or professional performers to participate in this ritual, the common tribesmen chose any suitable place near their village and started performing Gavri. Till  40-days Bheels proscribe wearing leather shoes, eating green vegetables, making physical relationship and using bed to sleep. This might be just another performance for some but to those who perform, it is more a devotion.  For the Bheel Community it is a medium to connect with Lord Shiva by their religious acts and display, presented at various places in and around Udaipur.

[Review] Which movie in “ASHOKA” ? Its DABANGG !!

Its been a lot of times we come across situations like planning for a day out and one of the friends or family member jumps in saying.. Hey, which movie in “ASHOKA” ?

Same happened with me even. Me with my friends were planning something to do for the weekend and ended up for watching a movie but bad luck goes hand in hand with the future managers as while doing MBA we don’t get movie tickets because of HOUSE FULL n after MBA good companies as for IIM’s made them full.

ticket-window

So finally we got tickets for Monday. As we have booked them on Saturday itself. Headed towards Ashoka cinema for which I never thought I would be visiting it in my life for it’s a way far related to newly released flicks.

Though Ashoka was the only one cinema hall Udaipur had in mid twenties. It was built in 1958-59 by the Popular Sanghi Group who have been Pioneers and Sole Exhibitors of Cinema Trade in 1941 in the State of Mewar.

After 50 years, Ashoka has been renovated and made into a “First Single Screen Cineplex in UDAIPUR”. The last viewed flick was Vivah before the modernisation and Tashan as it got renovated in 2008. Till today Ashoka is the one and only Cineplex to be a centre for entertainment in eyes of people of Udaipur.

ashoka-cinema-interior-udaipur

As with the renovation of infrastructure, many things also got renovated. The parking rates from Rs. 5 and 20 got raised to Rs. 20 and 50 for two wheelers and four wheelers respectively. A premium parking is also available at Rs. 100 for four wheeler owners.

The ticket rates have raised like one would be thinking that,

“Would i be getting any return gifts for watching a movie at Ashoka.”

Their present slab is : Rs.60, Rs. 90, Rs. 120, Rs. 150, Rs.  300.

These may vary time to time and day to day.

Compared to the old Ashoka, where a person with 100 bucks with his wife would have viewed the movie and saved Rs. 10 to his pocket including the parking charges. But now the time has changed and so have the spending habits and living standards of Udaipurites, which was very well researched and analysed by the Sanghi group as today they are the only Cineplex in town for more than couple of years by now .

ashoka-parking-udaipur

Nevertheless, i parked my car and my friend got the tickets. He didn’t wait in the queue for long as we had already booked through www.bookmyshow.com as telephone lines were continuously busy. We stepped in for the hall and the aunty on the glass door checked our tickets but there was no one to check us. Well least bothered with that we had something which was bigger than that, 2 guys sitting on our reserved seats and they were not ready to leave as according to them they have already been troubled from Ashoka’s staff and been shifted twice earlier.

Now, talking about Dabangg

dabangg

  • Genre: Action
  • Starring: Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood, Mahie Gill, Vinod Khanna,Dimple Kapadia, Om Puri,Anupam Kher, Mahesh Manjrekar
  • Director: Abhinav Kashyap
  • Producer: Arbaaz Khan
  • Writer: Dilip Shukla, Abhinav Kashyap
  • Music Director: Sajid-Wajid
  • Distributor: Arbaaz Khan Productions, Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision
  • Release Date: September 10, 2010

We sat to our comfortable seats and eagerly waited for Robinhood Chulbul Pandey (Salman khan). All thanks to crowd of Udaipur, because wherever we go we would be the same always. i.e as sallu was on screen..nobody remembered his dialogues at that time because audience was busy shouting, whistling, clapping for his welcome.

ashok-cinema-udaipur

A guy in last 2nd row on my extreme left shouted tera hi jalwa so loud that whole audience was attracted to him. I just gave a thought that what would happen to them if sallu baba comes out of screen standing LIVE before them.

But an awesome flick by Abhinav Kashyap that i merely heard a complete silence in the hall as every time i saw the gentry rolling on floor laughing.

I won’t be spoiling the curry by writting the whole story but the movie is very well directed, set in Uttar Pradesh (Lal ganj) with a story of corrupt police Dabang, played by Salman Khan and overcomes the shortcomings and highlights the flaws and loopholes in the system with a wonderful family drama in the end.

Comedy is very much kind of Salman’s copyrights and Action had its origin from South Indian films.

Dialogues I liked the most were:

“Thapad se darr nai lagta sahab, pyaar se lagta hai.”

“Humara naam humaari personality ko suit karta hai, “Chulbul Pandey””

The music already made a good way of promotion as it was seen when the song munni badnam hui started and the mob in front seats was dancing as attending a baraat.

A pure fundu, time pass and paisa wasool movie according to many people I heard talking after the movie.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s Tere mast mast do nain created a very lively ambience in the hall. Not to leave behind the total tapori dance of sallu in title track of Dabang was making me to stand n copy him.

The movie is a hit on Udaipur’s box office as per the previous house full shows and reviews. However, I wanted to have some more views so i jumped to some Udaipurites.

Sonal [Pursuing MBA from FMS Udaipur] says : a very good movie.. Salman danced really good.. sonakshi is so so sweeeet.

Divyani: [Pursuing B.Com. from B.N Girls College] says : the dialogues were very good and way Salman used them made them better..

Amrit: [10th std. student from St. Gregorios Sr. Sec. School] says : I enjoyed like hell today and i want to watch it again.. Salman khan rocks.. !!

[Inside Story] Udaipur’s Online Gamers & Game of Hopes

For the nascent stage of Online Gaming in India, specifically Udaipur I would like to say we are fighting for a brick when there is an entire skyscraper to be had. Online gaming is hardly talked subject in town, in spite of having thousands of internet users as well as techno savvy mob.

Still, there dwell some keen minds, overpowered with fiction and fantasy. They represent Techie fortune by magic of their minds and fingers. They are true online Gamers. Today I am talking about online gaming and emerging core gamers in Udaipur.

oline-gaming-in-udaipur

To just have a view regarding gamers, based on their level of involvement, they can be classified as-

  1. Casual gamers – This genre of gamers constitutes of those who play for the sake of fun or a quick break. Most of us fall in this category only, when we enjoy ourselves by playing Poker, Sudoku, Chess or some popular Facebook games like Word Challenge, YoVille, Farmville, Mafia Wars etc.
  2. Core or serious gamers – For core gamers, someone rightly said:

They are definitely not gaming just to game; there is always something else that drives them to game”.

Core gamers are not easy to understand. They are driven by number of factors like challenge, social interaction, escape & exploration that defines their passion towards gaming. They are community based gamers, who generally have peer group in gaming. They play LAN-based, massively multi-player online games (MMOG’s) or massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPG’s).

core-gaming-udaipur

I had a word with some core gamers of Udaipur, and I was simply spellbound by their diligence towards gaming. Sitting in a room, gazing the screen, they rule their own world in their own ways.

They are known by their In Game Name (IGN) i.e., their identity in online world. So, here I am addressing them by the same. I talked to Bhuvan Paliwal also known as (aka) ‘The Chosen One’, Parth Singh Saini aka ‘DareDeviL’ and Vajrasar aka ‘Jason Smith’.

1.What was the first thing that hit your interest in online gaming?

The Chosen One- It is because I like challenges and I found it in online gaming where I can compete with players from all over the world and also it’s a great time pass.

DareDeviL- I have been playing video games since I was a kid. But playing against computer was never interesting. One day, I and my friends tried playing against each other in a game-parlor. And oh my god! It was real fun. And I’ve been playing this ever since.

Jason Smith- You can say it’s like a born feeling. I played my first role playing game as DUKE NUKEM 3D, it was awesome, whenever I was playing I had a feeling of being able to takeover anything on any base, I feel like God (obviously stupid feeling though) that time. After that I never turned my back on gaming as I entered on the grounds of HALF LIFE, that game made me a game freak.

…………

2. What are the latest games you are playing?

The Chosen One – FIFA 2010, Ashes Cricket 2009, Age of Empires 3. My all time favorite is Counter Strike.

DareDeviL – Counter Strike 1.6(FPS), Counter Strike Source (FPS), Travian(Strategy).

Jason Smith- First of all, according to me there are no latest or outdated things in games, the game you are playing is latest for you. I engage myself in COUNTER STRIKE over WAN though, to fill up my appetite.

…………

online-gamers-udaipur

3. What are the gaming systems you are using and what are the necessary requirements for good audio and video qualities?

The Chosen One - Most Gaming systems lack a good graphic card. Also most of the times the keyboard, mouse are not of good quality.

DareDeviL – I use a system with AMD Phenom quad core processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 512MB ATI Radeon, but still I find it way too less to play latest FPS (First Person Shooter) games online. Fortunately, popular games like Counter Strike 1.6 can be played comfortably on normal PCs as well.

A gaming system must have a graphic card (at least 256MB) and a good processor (Dual or Quad or better) besides all this, 512 kbps internet connection is as important as wings for an airplane.

Jason Smith- First of all, the system on which usually so called 60% of “gamers” play is a computer with fancy small capacity RAM and entry level graphic card, me too is from same clan. But let me tell you the fact that, if you want to have whole eye candy and vibes of any game then you need just three words “GOOD GRAPHIC CARD”.

…………

4. What Udaipur is lacking in this particular fantasized Online gaming world?

The Chosen One – Udaipur lacks in the number of good gaming parlors. Also some colleges do not allow students for organizing online gaming events.

DareDeviL – First, good hardware shops are needed.  Shopkeepers keep stuff that people buy. Worse fact is that some misdirect their customers with the myths they have.

Second, there is no good game parlor that can host Clan Matches.

Third, there is no Game-Server in Udaipur. So, we have to play on Mumbai/Delhi servers. This results in high-ping (Latency).

Jason Smith- First thing lacking here is KNOWLEDGE, I have seen many potential gamers around, but all give up as they think “gaming” is a time pass.

Second is NETWORKING. There is need of some sort of communication channel between gamers themselves, in Udaipur there is no such thing. I have played counter strike in sift game dorms in Udaipur and to my amazement, I have seen hell awesome gamers from Udaipur there, where are they? I didn’t even saw there faces.

Last is FACILITY, in Udaipur there is not even a proper gaming hub, and if there is then, they ask money amount as big as to be needed in a major heart transplant. Pune and Kota are much more awesome on facility thing.

…………

5. So what can be the solution of this problem?

The Chosen One – Firstly, such events should be organized at college level; this will produce the required enthusiasm for such games and will result in development of more gaming parlors.

DareDeviL – At least one shop that can understand the need of a gamer, and can help him customize his system. And having an Organization, who can manage clan matches, would be awesome!!!

Jason Smith – Just introduce one good, big, spacious, and moreover cheap GAMING PARLOUR and you will see many emerging gamers there from Udaipur.

…………

6. What keeps you intact with core online gaming?

The Chosen One – You get to know people of your interests, team games help improve the skills for working with a team, leadership, coordination etc., Also gaming takes my mind off from daily matters.

DareDeviL – I really enjoy playing it. Also, you get to know more people.

Jason Smith- Online gaming is only interesting to me when one have good online games, and as far as I see there is only one name nowadays and i.e. COUNTER STRIKE, and most importantly online gaming gives me opportunity to build my network from other gamers.

…………

7. How much do you play daily?

The Chosen One- Not daily, but during any event our team, Fraggers practice for 3-5 hrs/day. On average, 30-40 hours a month.

DareDeviL – 10 hrs/day

Jason Smith- Give me a game and a nice PC; I can play 24 hours, but as of now I am busy with MCA so I play 2-3 hrs/day.

…………

8. Beside playing for entertainment, what are your achievements in this particular area?

The Chosen One – My clan, Fraggers stood two times back-to-back winner at TechnoHolix, GITS, and Udaipur in Counter-Strike Source. We also won in “EA Sports Cricket 2007″ at an event at EDEN animation academy at Lodha complex, Udaipur.

DareDeviL – There are not much of the competitions going in city. Still, my Clan, Lethality stood second at TechnoHolix, GITS Udaipur.

Jason Smith– NO, never got any chance to show anyone what I have got.

…………

It’s the new buzzword, with challenges, escape, thrill and excitement. If you are also part of this chimera, than drop your contact info, so that this community of online gamers can catch up!!

Lofty Bunks, In Lane Of Memory

Another new morning of summers, a day in college started with our first lecture at 10 am, students were scattered everywhere in the campus like bees hunting for honey. For me it was the most exciting day as I drove to college first time by car. All of my friends were eager and forced me to have a ride around the campus, but that was certainly not enough to satisfy our inner voracity to fly like free birds, to break some rules and to turn rebellion.

Bunking was planned just by looking at each other’s eyes and steering was rolled towards Fatehsagar Lake where soul of almost every young heart in Udaipur gets peace. We sat under one of those centuries old royal shed (chatri).

Friends, Fatehsagar, Car, Music, Peace and a start of a perfect bunk indeed.

Reasons of bunking may be numerous. But one attribute is generic i.e.  Break from routinely part of life. It is the times when one can explore his/her own self. Bunking is really worthy sometimes when mind fails to learn “grip of social rules and demands”. After all sometimes we need JUST OUR OWN TIME, OWN LIFE ON OUR TERMS!!!

These outbreaks are lifelong memory for many when they just followed their hearts.

Let’s take a ride on wings of their memories.

Alvin S Joseph, 24year, MBA student shares, Bunking was like playing hide and seek with everyone around me and during this dodging act my favorite places were Rani Road, Gulab Bagh , Badi ki Pal and Fateh Sagar. Every memory related to bunking in school days is memorable, but once very capricious incident happened.

I was at Dudh talai with my pals, enjoying BHUTTA and suddenly our school teacher spotted us. But the twist in the tale is neither of us tried to escape, instead I offered him our BHUTTA to eat with us, and for our great surprise he AGREED.

…………………….

jai-takJai Tak, now in infrastructure business shares, playing Football was my passion in teens. And to actualize my ardor I used to bunk and head towards my friend’s place, where we had a companion. Those were wonderful thrilling days, just playing whole day without any worry in head. I really miss those days.

…………………….

Nikhil Jain, Researcher in IBM, says our favorite place for bunking was CTAE cricket ground .With my friends, I have scored many runs while bunk. Last weekend when I visited Udaipur I found that nowadays girls and boys are equally bunking classes.

…………………….

Varun Jain, software Engineer, shared a riveting incident when he bunked in his college days. He says it was very charming day, it had already rained and I was in no mood to listen boring lectures, It was then, I skipped classes and went out for a date with my girlfriend at some restaurant at Sukher side. And then something out of the blue happened!!

My cousin arrived there. But he was accompanied with his girlfriend, so I was saved (actually we both). It is one of the exciting incidents in my life.

…………………….

Bunking is a by product of mood. It can actually accord one’s desires which remained unfulfilled for a long time. May it be peace, convivial with friends, outing with girlfriend, or space when you are just you with your thoughts. These people yearn those days, because they did whatever they wished at that moment, they were free, not in constraints of world around them.

But it needs courage to be a rebel. They did it, I did it, you did it too??

Fun and Frolic Rolling at R Kay Mall-OMG!!!

Our City Udaipur moved a step forward towards metropolitan culture when a mega structured building was erected in the year 2007. R Kay Mall(near Sukhadia circle,Panchwati) came up as the first shopping mall of Udaipur. Entire construction is based on latest technology and engineering, this makes R Kay Mall a rare piece of building and one of the best place to hang out with friends and family in the city of Lakes.

This fully air conditioned mall located in the heart of city, is outfitted with many things, or best you can say almost everything a shopper looks for. Despite of branded shops and cafes, it is secured with CCTVs and Fire Alarms, have Wi-Fi and Music.

r-kay-mall

Excluding the above conveniences, mall was still missing a place for entertainment equipped with latest gaming stations and play tools for every age group.

On path of making it a perfect entertaining arena, the management had planned to design a Game Zone. And with that thought process they came up with OMG (OH! My God) Game zone located on the 4th floor of R Kay Mall.

OMG was built keeping in mind to entertain entire family, comprising of a food court and a gaming zone. None of which is too expensive. Despite of Udaipur’s culture of going on an outing at some scenic place people are switching towards malls and entertainment zones. More significantly OMG will be providing a Bowling Track also 1st time in Udaipur, so we can say that it’s high time to switch from Pool and Snooker table to Bowling. Recently started food court prepares every food stuff in purified water and in clean and hygienic place. They serve varieties in South Indian, Chinese, Rajasthani, Punjabi and Fast food. So, it’s a complete package of fun along with food.

rkay

OMG Game zone (for kids and youth) comprises:

  • Super bike
  • Bowling lanes [First in Udaipur]
  • Shooting zones
  • Racing games
  • Air hockey

Children and youths can have fun in game zone, while elder citizens can enjoy food of various cuisines in the food court.

OMG also provides party hall which can lodge kitty party, birthday, dance party, and some small family functions. On the other hand for cooperate meets it has room for press conference, business meetings, seminar and many more other events. In short OMG will be faultless destination for all age groups.

r-kaymall

“Comfort is Important for the customer”

According to Mr. Raju Kothari Owner of the R Kay Mall says “that R Kay Mall with OMG is attracting people towards Mall culture and is an ideal place to spend leisure time as it has all the facilities which people look for in a mall. Quality food and entertainment is all that we want to provide to the people of our town”. In today’s fast life with lots of tension and boredom of day to day work people are looking for comfort which is provided by R Kay Mall and OMG.

Mr. Raju Kothari in respect to future competition says, “We don’t feel any competition as we are located in the prime most location of the city, so if in future number of malls increases in city than also RK Mall will maintain its charm.”

So, Udaipurites what are you waiting for! Just go and check out OMG at R Kay Mall and if you have already visited it than let us know about your experiences?

[Rumor]: Miss Universe 2011 To Be Held In Udaipur

Miss Universe, as the name says, is the search for the most beautiful, most talented and an extraordinary girl in the Universe. How about the idea of this contest being held in the World’s Most Beautiful City? You must be wondering what I am talking about. Miss Universe… Most Beautiful City..??

rumor-miss-universeimage courtsey: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fwump/

Well, let me introduce you to the Miss Universe Contest first, Miss Universe is an annual International Beauty Contest run by the Miss Universe Organization. The contest was first organized by Pacific Mills, a clothing company in 1952. It was held inLong Beach, California and Armi Kuusela grabbed the first ever crown for Miss Universe. In 1996 Miss Universe, Inc. was renamed to Miss Universe Organization.

Coming back to the point, this is undoubtedly something very interesting to be shared with all our readers. We have received a piece of information from some unauthorized sources claiming the next Miss Universe Contest to be held in Udaipur, the City of Lakes.

steafania-fernandezStefania Fernandez, Miss Universe 2010

The city imposes intense romance and passion through a splendid beauty of natural surroundings. It has already become a palladium of Regal and Royal Weddings and attracts a good number of tourists every year. Beautiful Aravallis enclosing palaces, forts, gardens and temples make it a land of dreams with glorious past. Many celebrities have fallen in love with the place by now, and I can say it for sure that the beauties from round the world will go crazy once they are here.

It is supposed that if the lakes are filled up and continue to be in a good state, the pageant would be organized in Jag Mandir. International Airport, well established Railway and Road network, luxury hotels are an added advantage.

Millions of Dollars are being spent every year to make the event “bigger” than ever. Reports say that a sum of over $5 Million was spent last year. This would be a great opportunity for the city and its people to witness this spectacular event. The City would gain a lot more name and fame with this beauty contest. On the other hand, it would be beneficial for the local tourism industry and other business sectors as well.

Let’s hope that it rains well and this event would add another gem to the crown of this beautiful place.

FIFA Fever in Udaipur

Just like entire nation, every child and grownup of Udaipur is a die hard fan of cricket, for us cricket is not a sport it is a religion. But people also love other sports like hockey, tennis and football. As we all know that Fifa world cup 2010 is starting from today 11 June, I went out to check the atmosphere of football in City of Lakes and found that many fans are anxiously waiting for it. I talked with few football enthusiasts, asked them about their favorite team, player and according to them who will emerge as champion this year?
