Udaipur mourns death of Moral Values

udaipur-black-whiteI don’t know when and how the image of Udaipur as a serene town was stripped off by that of a budding metropolitan suffering from frenzied road traffic and the mounting crime situation. Over all, the saddest part is the nonchalant attitude of lawmakers, supplemented with our own indolent behavior.

Among the half a dozen of crime incidents reported last week, robbery has been so common, while murder for any small issue is just another growing evil that is being resorted to, by youth who never had any criminal past.

Roads are no safer for driving and certainly no footpaths are available any longer for pedestrians; still a helpless walker walks frightened and a biker urges to reach his destination safely before he gets bumped by another biker. [Read more...]

Udaipur Bakra-Mandi needs to be shifted from Hathipol or Not?

bakra-mandi-udaipur

Eid-ul-Adha, a significant Islamic Festival of Sacrifice will be celebrated on November 7, 2011 in Udaipur and many parts of the world. Eid ul Adha is celebrated to express the eternal love for God, the Almighty by sacrificing the materialistic pleasures of the world which is believed to be not long lasting.

In respect of this, Muslims perform the annual pilgrimage of Hajj and after its completion, Eid ul Adha is celebrated by observing an important custom of sacrificing a goat or a lamb. (Why and how is written in this article).

Every year in Udaipur a few days before Eid Ul Adha, a temporary market is set at Hathipol’s Panadhya Marg where dozens of goat sellers from nearby villages settle down and sell their animals.

This road has lots of handicraft and cloth shops which also attract tourists; the same road is also used frequently as a main passage to go towards Chetak Circle and Delhi Gate. In peak hours Panadhya Marg turns jam packed with tourist vehicle parked and the ongoing traffic.

Above all crammed situations mentioned above, a goat market known as Bakra Mandi adds more obstructions to the pedestrians and vehicles.

Unnecessary to say that due to Bakra Mandi the area gives foul smell, becomes dirty and annoys others. The objection has nothing to do with religion or festival, as a Muslim I understand the value of religious beliefs so keep my allegations out of the religion.

Instead of using the space located in middle of the main road, this mandi can be set in an open areas or grounds, for example in Mumbai such markets are set at Deonar. [Read more...]

Corruption: A Rolling Ball

By Poonam Arora

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s need but not every man’s greed.” This has been aptly said by Mahatma Gandhi but leaders in our country are trying to satisfy not their need but their greed thus ignoring what Gandhi ji suggested.

But what has happened to the youth of our Nation? Have we forgotten Bhagat Singh and Netaji who infused the spirit of freedom in the young minds? [Read more...]

Dear Netaji, Give us Some Break!!

Cut the crap! This time we don’t have a bit of tolerance left to listen to your trademarked words coming out of your corrupted mouth. We have surely understood that you (our political wardens) are not only unfaithful to us and to this nation but also to your own self.

More than 700 lives have been lost in Mumbai since 1993 serial bomb blasts. Every single blast is a straight slap on your face [Read more...]

By: Mahipal Singh
